Beautiful Tetons
During our week of camping in the Tetons, followed by my daughter’s wedding, we were audience to the continually changing beauty of the Tetons. I wanted to post a few photos of the Tetons, to show how different they looked at various times of day, but rather than just “a few,” decided to post all of the best photos.
MORNING:
After unzipping the tent each morning, the Tetons were always my first sight. It became a game each morning to discover how the mountains would look that first hour of the day.
NOON:
The afternoons were very warm, and the sunshine at altitude was intense. Everyone got sunburned the first day within the first hour. Each afternoon seemed to bring dramatic weather, with winds and dark clouds, though many times the rain never hit the ground.
and NIGHT:
The evenings were simply gorgeous. Each evening was different from the one before, depending on the clouds and colors. Our first night there, the Milky Way arced across the sky like a white rainbow.
Nice shots of the Tetons with the changing of the light throughout the day! Thanks for including them all. What a beautiful place for a wedding! I am interested in reading about your other thoughts and adventures. I am a professional photographer in Texas, and write a blog on photography and life at http://findingfocustjb.wordpress.com/.
Thanks so much! I would love to travel more than I do, and photograph everything, but I’m just not there yet! I’ll definitely check out your blog. Thanks for visiting.
Hard to pic a favorite photo. All would win Best of Show in a Favorite Vacation Contest.
Look for one and win!
Thanks, Dad, that’s a good idea!
Can’t argue with the beauty in all the pictures and who could ask for a more spectacular backdrop to a wedding! Congratulations on your daughter’s wedding and I’m jealous of your morning, evening and nighttime views. Great photos.
Thank you. After coming back to all the hot weather, I’m ready to go back. I miss that view from my tent . . .
very beautiful!
Thank you! Photos don’t do it justice, but they’re good reminders.
Stunning, stunning, stunning. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to spend a whole summer in that one spot, documenting each day? Better yet, a whole year! I’m glad you posted them all.
Yes, I had the same thought when I was there, and had a similar thought once when I was in Yellowstone. Sleeping in a tent through the winter might be a bit rough on this Texan, however!
Yep, that would be a problem!
You posted those pictures just to make me jealous! Seriously lovely views!
It’s even hard for me to post the photos because it makes me want to go back ASAP.
we loved the Tetons, and what a great place for a wedding
It was a gorgeous wedding. I thought she was crazy for wanting to have it outdoors, but it was perfect.
magically evocative of… something….. beyond…
Now there’s even a Jackson Hole Marathon. Wouldn’t that be spectacular to run?
Indeed it would! I’ve done a lot of 5 and 10K’s on the “other side of the mountain” (Pocatello, ID), but that was in my pre-marathon days.
That sounds beautiful as well. We hiked on the Idaho side of the Tetons, and skied one Christmas, and it was just as scenic.
wow. really just beautiful and amazing.
Take your kids one day! They will love it there. My daughter swears all our camping trips out west are the reason she became a geologist (and moved out west herself).
Amazing pictures!! I am working at Signal Mountain (next to Jackson Lake for the summer). I agree with your statement on the cloud shadows moving across the mountains, I love watching that phenomenon when it occurs. 🙂 It’s a good thing your visit/the wedding was when it was, it has been sooo smoky here lately you can barely see the mountains… a neat sight really, looks like Chinese watercolor, but overall I prefer the mountains as your pictures captured them. 🙂
Oh, wow, have there been wildfires in the area? I was convinced my daughter’s idea of getting married outdoors on a mountain overlooking the Tetons was crazy, asking her if she knew how many things could go wrong. A huge storm blew in just before the wedding ceremony, but it somehow parted around us and only caused a little drama. I’m so jealous you get to spend an entire summer working there!
Yes, there have been wildfires in the Pocatello, Idaho area and the smoke has been blowing over here… When we went out to look at the meteor shower we were not even sure if we would be able to see the stars, it has been so hazy. Fortunately the night sky was clear. 🙂
Isn’t that funny how the clouds can be so ominous, and you cannot tell if the storm is going to go above you or pass right by? Haha!
Yes I am very, very blessed to be spending my summer here. It’s been simply grand getting to know Wyoming and the Grand Teton Park.
Sounds like a great way to spend a summer to me! I always tell people who’ve never been to Wyoming, Yellowstone, or the Tetons that once they go, they’ll never be the same again. There’s something about it that changes you. Enjoy the rest of your summer at Jackson Lake!
Thank you for sharing these gorgeous images~ I especially love the one of your daughter getting married. How beautiful! I’m glad it worked out, and now just think of the memories you all will have.
It was a lot of work pulling off an outdoor wedding on national forest land, but I’m glad it’s what she wanted. It was beautiful, everyone had a great time, and the memories will last forever.
What beautiful photographs! I’m so glad you shared with us. I would love to see that in person!
Don’t wait, Michelle! Go ASAP because it’s incredible. You will love it, and then you’ll want to go back, and we meet up for a hike!
Haha! Okay, let me warm up my jet 🙂
No, you need to take about a month off from work and make a long road trip. What a great trip that would be from the east coast!
So funny!! Just as I hit send, I thought, “Oh yeah, and I need to call out for my shift tomorrow.”
I think I will get my 3rd vacation week after next year, so what I need to do is start saving my money now. Then in two years, I can take my 3 weeks and 1 week unpaid, and do it right! But maybe I’d never come back…
You can also have a great trip with only three weeks. That sounds like a great plan! I can’t guarantee you’ll want to go back home (you won’t), but I can promise you won’t be the same person you were before you left. It’s truly that amazing. And of course you have to fit in Yellowstone as well.
You’re making me think that I could actually pull it off… I’ll have to give this some thought!
You absolutely could! Especially if you like to camp, you could keep your costs down by camping at least some of the time.
Gorgeous photos. And what an amazing place to have a wedding! My grandson and I passed along the Tetons last summer (2011) on our way to Yellowstone and I couldn’t help stopping at nearly every pull-out to snap a photo or two. The mountains just call out: “Remember me. I am eternal but never the same.”
It’s true, and that particular mountain range is so spectacular, rising directly from the flat valley, that you can’t help but be in awe.
Oh, my GOD! It is so beautiful there. The only thing I have to compare it to are the White Mountains in New Hampshire, but they pale by comparison.
I’ve never been to New Hampshire, but it’s high on my list of places to visit. Thanks for visiting!
YAaaYYYY!! Hurray!! Congrats on your Freshly Pressed!! I’ve been reading this other blog of yours incognito a bit, but obviously I need to get more with it as well. Lovely photos and what a great way to showcase your daughter’s wedding in those mountains.
Thanks, Tania! Love that you’ve been reading the blog “incognito.”
Ohhhhh, I want to go back so much now !!! Nice pictures, and what a great idea to have a day-by-day comparison.
Congrats ! (on the FP, on the wedding… :))
You should go back! It’s always a great vacation in the Tetons, but having a wedding there made it even more amazing.
Nice shots of Tetons with hue of entire day. Amazing Pics. Tetons as backdrop for wedding is amazing.
Thanks. You couldn’t ask for a more dramatic backdrop, and the weather was pretty iffy up to the last moment.
You just got me so excited to go to the Tetons! Which is convenient because…I leave in 10 days! Woo hoo!
Thanks for the vacation pep talk.
I’m so jealous. Can you sneak me in your luggage? You’re going at a great time of year, when most of the kids are heading back to school and there’s a slight hint of autumn in the air. Have a wonderful time!
I love how the mountains change depending on what type of light is on them.
I’ve been to the Tetons many times, but camping across the valley, and seeing them everyday from the same location, was a great experience. I’d never realized before then how different they could look, changing sometimes from minute to minute. Thanks for visiting.
Hey – Freshly Pressed! Hooray! They made an excellent choice.
Thanks so much! It was quite a surprise.
Very beautiful pics !
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed them.
So rugged and majestic!
They really are. Since they rise from a flat plain, they are very imposing–and majestic!
What a gorgeous backdrop to a wedding! I love those mountains! They are just breathtaking every time I drive by.
I thought my daughter was out of her mind when she told me she wanted to get married on a mountain, but it all worked out just fine. Next time you drive by, jump out of the car and take a hike. They’re even more amazing when you hike up into the canyons and see all the wildflowers.
Yeah, I’ve gone from Jenny’s Lake over Hurricane Ridge on horseback back in college. It’s gorgeous in there.
I would love to do that sometime. I’ve only hiked (and ran on a trail once), but that sounds amazing.
Beautiful! These shot are amazing!

Thank you. It’s tough to take a bad photo of the Tetons, but we were amazed at how many fantastic photos we got.
What an amazing meditation on The Tetons! I love how using the same subject matter as a backdrop, or the actual subject, for such a variety of pictures illuminates how changeable our world is, even as mountains seem unchangeable. Our planet swirls around our sun while we feel as though we are sitting in place. Mountains are monuments to structure and security, and yet they can be so diverse in their representation. Just beautiful.
Thank you, and I’m glad you enjoyed it. As the week wore on, I was amazed at how different the mountains could look, almost minute by minute, depending on the light, cloud cover, rain, stars, etc. I think I could have stayed there forever and never seen the same view twice.
Absolutely stunning, what a magic spot.
Cheers Callie
Thanks for visiting. It was truly magical.
beautiful places, magical light ..
I like your photos
Thank you!
I literally JUST got back last night from my road trip to the Tetons, how wonderful to see it on Freshly Pressed today! I worked there for two summers and those mountains are still stunning EVERY time I look at them. Thanks for sharing your photos!
-Liz
Those must have been two fantastic summers. Glad I could keep your vacation going one more day, if only in photos!
Breathtaking! I love how your work encompassed such a span of time so seamlessly.
Thanks, I had a lot of fun choosing the photos and putting them together like that. We took so many pictures of the mountains and it just seemed natural to show the changes.
Beautiful pictures…thank you for sharing! Here is a link to another memorable Teton Photo at http://djawest.wordpress.com/2012/06/18/if-your-life-was-measured-in-summers-where-would-you-spend-them/ Best, D.
Thanks for sharing. I love your post, especially the title (and photo, of course).
Beautiful, indeed! . . . Glorious setting for a wedding!

Thank you, it was a memorable wedding indeed!
Your pictures made me homesick for our summer trip (we spent 6 nights camped at Signal Mountain to end our 7 week road trip). Where did you camp? My wife and I have this ongoing argument about our favorite National Park; I think the Tetons might be it.
A 7 week road trip! That’s definitely my favorite kind of vacation! We camped on Shadow Mountain. My overall favorite national park would have to be Yellowstone, but it’s hard to choose. I also love Glacier, Arches, Canyonlands . . . And one of my favorite spots is Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah. If you walk down along the length of the creek bed, under the arches, you can see all kinds of pictographs on the canyon walls.
Our top 4 may be Waterton (Glacier’s Canadian twin), Tetons, Mt. Ranier, and Yosemite. Really though, time spent camping is pretty good wherever you are.
Waterton is stunning, and I haven’t been to Mt Rainier or Yosemite yet. You’re right, any camping trip is good, though I’ll take the West over Texas any day!
Absolutely beautiful photos! I can’t wait to travel to that part of the country. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! You will love it there. The photos don’t do it justice.
Your pictures are amazing. Congratulations on your daughter’s wedding.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the photos.
wow ! what a backdrop !
Crazy, huh? It was ridiculously beautiful.
What camera body and lenses do you use? Nice images. Congrats on FP!
Thank you. A few of the photos were taken with a Canon S95 (because I couldn’t find the other camera that early in the morning), but most were taken with a Nikon D800 with a 50mm 1.4.
What a beautiful wedding! Gorgeous setting. The Tetons were my Grandfather’s favorite mountains. He was an artist and he painted those beautiful peaks…many times. I have one of those pictures that I treasure. Your photos are beautiful!
Thanks so much for visiting. What a touching memory of your grandfather, to have one of his paintings of the mountains he loved so much. What an heirloom!
Hey, Ms. Fresh Pressed, look at you! That’s so fantastic! Congratulations 🙂
Michelle, you were one of the very first people to ever find my blog. You’re my oldest blog friend! Thanks so much for always reading and commenting and making me think, and for inspiring me with your own wonderful, thought-provoking blogs. It means the world to me!
This is why you deserve to be recognized, because you are so dear! I could say all the same things right back to you. If I ever do get to go see the Tetons, I expect you to meet me there 🙂 I can’t guarantee a hike (cause I’m in no shape to hike, as you probably know), but I will enjoy every minute of our visit.
It’s a deal, Skippy! Start saving those pennies. I’m always looking for an excuse to head west!
You’ve logged a great set of moments with tese photos. I love the Tetons and have visited many times. On one bike trip, I told my partner that I could ride this particular road everyday for a year and never see the same scene twice. You’ve given me great joy with your time lapse photos.
I’m so glad you enjoyed them. I love bike riding out there as well. And I agree, the changes in scenery are lovely. I would love to spend an entire year there, being a part of all the changes.
What a nice wedding. Congratulations(^.^)/
Thank you, thank you! The wedding was the best!
This was amazing. Especially the wedding photograph. Lovely!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
I’ve always loved the Tetons. Great photos showing the various changes of weather, light and color in the sky. I am sure the the wedding was memorable.
The wedding was truly memorable, and it meant a lot to my family to be able to have it in the Tetons. Thanks for visiting.
Beautiful location for a wedding. A good story with a beautiful location!0
Thanks so much.
beautiful…….i love being in the mountains……………
excuse my ignorance but where are the tetons?………..
They are in Wyoming.
Me, too. It’s so different from where I live.
Beautiful photos. It’s amazing that a new view unfolds every moment. And sure it is a wonderful setting for a wedding. Congratulations!
Thank you. And they look even more spectacular in the winter!
Those skies tell a story all by itself. Congrats to your daughter too!
Couldn’t agree more. Thanks for the well-wishes!
The first photo of the Tetons in the morning took my breath away. The changing colors are so gorgeous and what an amazing backdrop for a wedding! Beautiful photos, indeed! Thank you for sharing them. Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed! 🙂
Thank you very much. The early morning views were probably my favorite. The sun shone directly on the mountains, and there were sometimes low lying clouds that cast beautiful shadows. The evenings were also lovely as well, though.
Some beautiful shots here.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed them.
Its been too long since I’ve been to the Tetons. Woke up in Yellowstone one cold Oct morning to snow. It was about 4AM and I knew the dog was going to get too cold if we continued to stay in the tent so we packed everything up and started driving down to the Tetons. We arrived about 8 minutes before the sun started to rise so we parked the car by the lake and waited. Just as my finger were starting to regain their sensation the sun appeared. It was magical and will be a lifelong memory. Definitely need to get back.
Congratulations on the wedding too! Looked splendid.
That’s a great story, and a wonderful memory of both Yellowstone and the Tetons. I’ve been in Yellowstone in July and had both sleet and snow, which was kind of cool to see with all the geysers. I would love to visit sometime in the winter. We were in Jackson Hole a few Christmases ago and got to cross country ski at the base of the Tetons. It was so quiet and peaceful in the snow–definitely magical. Thanks for commenting!
wow what an incredible location for a wedding! your daughter looks beautiful!!! congrats! and wow those images…my favourite is the one with your dogs!
Thank you. The dog photo makes me laugh every time I see it. My boyfriend is a dog whisperer and can get them to pose like that everywhere we go. I told him we’re going to have to start another blog of dog poses in scenic locales!
Beautiful outdoor wedding! Must be a very memorable event for a life time.
Thanks, it was the perfect location for a wedding. It was a lot of work setting it all up, but everything worked out beautifully.
what a perfect place for a wedding. hope mine is as beautiful!!!

It really was. I highly recommend it!
🙂
Beautiful photos! I loved the Tetons when I was able to visit. Congrats to you and your daughter, as well!
Thanks for visiting, Zack. I hope you get to go back to the Tetons soon.
Beautiful post! Your photos are wonderful. I love the Tetons. We’ve been twice and stayed in Jackson Hole, WY. From there we visited Teton National Park and Yellowstone. We once stayed in a cabin the last time we went that had the most amazing view of the Tetons from the front porch. Where did you camp? Thank you for sharing your trip!
Thank you! We camped on Shadow Mountain, which is National Forest Service land. It’s primitive, and this year no fires were allowed because of the dry conditions, so if you camp there you’ll have to rough it. To us, it was perfect.
That sounds perfect. We love to camp and are enjoying roughing it more and more. It’s the best way to really enjoy getting out there. Thank you, again!
I agree. I used to kick and scream about not having a shower close by, but we bought a solar camp shower and it worked out really well. I love the solitude and quietness of not being in a developed campground. I felt like we practically had the entire mountain to ourselves.
Well Done! You have been awarded a Grade 3 BlOgcean Award from us! Your one of a group of the first ever to get this award, so we would be grateful if you could spread the word! If you want to know more about us and your award go to: http://blogceanawards.wordpress.com/

Amazing photos!! Look at the dogs!! I wish mine would sit still for such a nice photo! Lol
Yeah, I really like the dog photo, too. My boyfriend can get them to do anything!
Such great pictures, scenery is amazing
Thanks. It’s a beautiful place.
Way awesome pics!
Thanks so much! It’s hard to take a bad photo there.
Spectacular….
